On my cards, the user selects one of two options on a radio button, and enters a due date. On the calendar, the items display based on due date, but I’d like to see the items displayed differently (different color?) based on the radio button selected. Possible?

Hello 
There are two things I can recommend you, though. First, you can create labels for the cards and if you wish, you can display them automatically using automation.
The other option is a chrome extension called FotoFun (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fotofun/kokhojmlfkbapkioldakeabajbcjfgna). This extension allows you to change the color of the card basing it on its due date or separate colors for teams, for example.
